CHARLESTON – The Charleston RiverDogs have placed starting pitcher Dellin Betances and right-fielder Dave Williams on the disabled list, the New York Yankees announced Tuesday. Pitcher Gabe Medina and utility outfielder D.J. Hollingsworth will fill the vacated roster spots.Whether it's in the Major or Minors the Yankees can't seem to avoid the injury bug.
Betances, the 13th overall rated prospect in the Yankees farm system, according to Baseball America, joins the laundry list of inactive players with an upper-body injury. The Brooklyn, N.Y. native lasted just 3.2 innings in Monday’s 9-8 loss to the Augusta GreenJackets, allowing eight runs on eight hits with two walks and three strikeouts.
Williams, the Yankees’ 15th round selection in the 2007 Draft, has missed the last three games with an upper-body injury. The Rutgers has not played since May 23, when he entered the game against the Greenville Drive as a defensive replacement in the 9th inning.
