A lots going to be said over the next 18 hours till the next game of the ALCS. A lot of double guessing and second thought will take place and rightfully so, there was some ambiguity to the loss. But remember, The Yankees have been successful so far this post season and shown that they are capable of bouncing back all of the regular season.
Your probably going to hear a lot of analysts make a big deal about CC going on 3 days and Scott Kazmir's success against the Yankees. The Yankees hitting line against Kazmir is .222/.307/.323/.630 and includes 12 doubles, 4 homers and 27 rbi...not really all that impressive. But to be fair I checked out the his opponents in the 2008 playoffs and their hitting line against him in the regular season. The opponents were, the White Sox, their line, .245/.324/.477/.801 and the Red Sox (also opponents of his this season in the ALDS), whose line is .272/.375/.457/.832, each a little more impressive but still not overly impressive.
Having moderate success against these teams I checked out Kazmir's post season numbers. He is 1-1 with 4.83era. He thrown 31.2 innings yielding 31 hits, 21 walks and struck-out 23. In 3 of his 6 starts he's gone 6 innings and in 3 he's failed to go past 5.1 innings. He's also gotten 4 no decisions.
Looking at the stats the Yankees seem to have a disadvantage but Kazmir is hittable tonight against the Angels. His post season line tells of a pitcher hard pressed to find consistency and one who gives up a lot of hits and a lot of walks. The Yankees are a patient team, they have to sit back and wait for something to hit or take the walk. Key match-ups for the Yankees are Mark Teixeria who bats .636 off Kazmir with 4 doubles and 3rbi, Jorge Posada who hits .440 with a homer, 3 doubles and 5 rbi and finally, Melky Cabrera who's hitting .400 with a couple of doubles and rbi.
