With two games, I'll stick with bullet points....

• CC Sabathia started off pretty well, but it ended up being another rough spring outing for the big lefty. In 4.2 innings he allowed 5 runs--all earned--on 8 hits, walked 1, and struck out 3. He also gave up a solo homer to Clint Sammons. He's not got a 7.23 ERA, although I wouldn't worry too much about it.

• Pat Venditte (pictured above) made his first appearance for the Yankees this spring, and did OK. In 1.1 innings he allowed a run on two hits and a walk.

• Jorge Posada had a nice day at the plate, going 2-for-3, with a homer, a walk, 2 RBI, and 2 runs scored.

• Robinson Cano picked up two more hits, including a double, to raise his spring average to .354.

• Nick Swisher went 1-for-4, with a homer and 2 runs scored.

• Alex Rodriguez and Derek Jeter both had good nights offensively. Jeter went 2-for-3 with a walk and 2 runs scored, while A-Rod also went 2-for-3 with a walk, and scored one run.

• Randy Winn, Ramiro Pena, Nick Johnson and Jon Weber each had RBIs for the Yanks.

• Sergio Mitre continues to make a case for that last spot in the pen. Tonight he went 6 innings and allowed 2 runs on just 3 hits, did not walk a batter, and struck out 5.

• Damaso Marte allowed an unearned run on a hit in one inning of work.

• After throwing another scoreless inning, Mariano Rivera still has yet to allow a run this spring.

• Boone Logan, also in the running for the final bullpen spot, saved the game with a scoreless inning.

After tonight's game the Yankees reassigned outfielders David Winfree and Jon Weber to minor camp after tonight’s game. Weber hit .483 this spring. After the game Weber seemed thrilled with his experience.

“It was the best time in my life, in my career, that I’ve ever had,” Weber told Chad Jennings. “I made it to the final week with the New York Yankees.”

I know the Yankees like Thames, and Weber is just a career minor leaguer, but am I the only one who thinks he might have deserved a chance? If only he was right-handed.

Tomorrow's Game

Tomorrow will be the final start for Phil Hughes this spring as he faces the Minnesota Twins at 1:05 pm in Tampa. Brian Duensing will start for the Twins. The game will be on YES and ESPN.
