Griffey is no fan of Yankee Stadium

There were two articles this morning about Griffey's lack of appreciation for one of baseball's most historic stadiums. Here are some of the former susperstar's comments, first from the New York Post:

"My favorite Yankee Stadium memory?" the Reds slugger said last night. "It's leaving Yankee Stadium."

Griffey is no fan of history, and no fan of the Yankees since Billy Martin, who has been dead for 17 years, yelled at a young Griffey while his dad, Ken Sr., was a member of the Bombers.

Once, Junior said he would never play for the Yankees for that reason alone.

"The Reds haven't been here in 30 years," he said before the Reds' 4-2 victory last night. "For us it's a road trip we have to make, not something to look forward to."

He also told Peter Abraham that "It's just something on the schedule, (The media) is making a bigger deal out of it than I am."

Steve Lombardi over at WasWatching.com suggests booing Griffey, and I think that's a fine response, but here's another that I felt would be just as effective:

Warning, Bad Language

Yeah, but how do you think parents & kids felt sitting in the stands hearing that?/ Doesn't say much for Yankees fans, of which I am one.

Do you really think his parents and kids were sitting in the right field bleachers in 1996? I don't.
