Sanchez is the Lone Yankee in BA's SAL Top-20

Sanchez's season ended prematurely, due to a broken finger. His season had its ups and downs, but it is worth noting that he was on a tear in the last couple of weeks before going down with the aforementioned injury. Sanchez finished the batting .256/.335/.485, with 17 HR, 2 SB, 36 BB, 93 K, and a 121 wRC+.

Baseball America ranked Sanchez as the 14th best prospect in the South Atlantic League, praising his power and bat speed, yet noting that he has a great deal of work to do defensively - he led the league in passed balls despite the early end to his season (and a mid-season demotion due to attitude issues, including refusing to catch a bullpen session). While that ranking may seem a bit disappointing, one must consider that Bryce Harper, Manny Machado, Jurickson Profar, and Jameson Taillon top the list ... all of which are quite likely to rank in the top-fifteen or so on many Top-100 lists.

Gary Sanchez to Miss Remainder of Season

So long as the break heals properly (a reasonable expectation), this should not have any long-term ramifications. On the season, Sanchez produced the following line in 343 PA:

.256/.335/.485, 17 HR, 2 SB, 36 BB, 93 K, .364 wOBA, 121 wRC+

At face value, Sanchez's production may not have met the lofty expectations that his 2010 season birthed ... but one must bear in mind that Sanchez was among the five youngest players at his level throughout the season. And, for what it's worth, his wOBA was twenty-one percent above league-average, which is a fine showing for most any prospect.

Gary Sanchez Doing Well After Heart Surgery

Heart surgery?!

As per George King:

After undergoing heart surgery this week at a New York hospital, Yankees prospect Gary Sanchez has been cleared to resume workouts Monday.

During a recent EKG, the 18-year-old catcher was found to have an extra nerve in his heart from birth. Surgery was performed to cauterize the nerve.

General manager Brian Cashman said Thursday that Sanchez was OK.

"Trust me, there are no worries now about Gary Sanchez," Cashman said.

This seems to be something of a ho-hum treatment of a fairly serious procedure, as there are always quite a few risks with heart surgery - but if Sanchez has been cleared to play, I suppose there's nothing to worry about. Here's hoping this is the last time that Sanchez and his family have to worry about any heart issues.
