Cano & Damon Pushing Ortiz To Yanks?

Robinson Cano(notes) would like to see his friend David Oritz jump from the arch-rival Boston Red Sox to his New York Yankees and Johnny Damon(notes), the former teammate of both players, said it would be a good idea.

"Shoot, I was trying to tell him if he went to New York his 30 home runs turns into 40," Damon said while at Ortiz's celebrity golf tournament in the Dominican Republic, according to The Boston Globe. "He still has a great chance to win. I'm happy I got to experience both sides (of the Yankees-Red Sox rivalry). Both sides were very incredible for me.

"… As a baseball fan, I would love to see him stay in Boston," Damon said. "But being a part of it, I know there may be some opportunities and less drama elsewhere."

Cano, also attending Ortiz's tournament, had earlier said he would welcome Big Papi to the Bronx.

"It would be a good idea, having another lefty on the team," Cano told the New York Daily News. "We all know he's a great hitter. Last year, a lot of people were saying, 'He's done.' He proved a lot of people wrong. I like people, when they're down, they prove people wrong. He came back, did a great job."

I know there really isn't a need to bring in a big bat, but I would certainly have no problems if the Yankees were actually interested in signing Ortiz. Not only would it add a very good lefty bat to the lineup, but it would crush Red Sox fans.

Ortiz Blames Media For Plunking

From the NY Daily News:

Ortiz seemed agitated and angry when he turned to speak with the media after the game, first announcing that he would not take questions. Then he said, "I just want to thank you guy(s) - not all of you, most of you - for the stat today: me not getting hit by the Yankees. I finally got hit. I hope you (jerks) are happy."

Next Ortiz called the group "unprofessional."

He concluded the interview by saying, "You guys like to criticize us when we (mess) up. Criticize yourself now.

"I'm not talking no more. Good night."

"I'm still trying to figure out if David getting hit was something I did or something ESPN stirred up," Beckett said after his seven strong innings left him 3-0 in three starts against the Yankees this season.

Yea, it's the media's fault. Keep telling yourself that, moron.

And to the Yankees: great job letting this bunch of idiots waltz into Yankee Stadium and sweep you guys again....Great ****ing job.

Ortiz To Girardi: "Take it like a man"

"I don't care what Joe Girardi says," Ortiz said to a New York writer. "Take it like a man. I'm done with that."

Ortiz said he did not flip his bat Wednesday so he could avoid being on the "national news."

"I don't want to have you guys asking me the same questions. I got almost 370 bombs in the big leagues and everybody wants to make a big deal because I bat-flip one of them. (Expletive) that (expletive), man. If I have to make that video on my (expletive), let's see how many bat flips I got on this (expletive). Good night."

What a clown.

Girardi Not a Fan of Ortiz's Bat Flip

Apparently, Joe Girardi wasn't too please with David Ortiz's bat flip after his fifth inning home run last night (video here). Here's what the skipper said after the game:

“I didn’t really care for it,” Joe Girardi said after the Yanks’ 6-4 loss to Boston. “I don’t know if he was upset that he missed some pitches earlier. You know, I’ve got a young kid [Hector Noesi] on the mound. I didn’t know if [Ortiz] was upset that he came in hard on him.”

Ortiz responded:

“I mean, it’s not my first time, it’s not going to be my last time,” Ortiz said when he was informed of Girardi’s comments. “Big deal. I enjoy the game. It’s not like I do it all the time. It’s part of the excitement, you know? … What can I tell you?”

“if [Girardi] was on this side, he would have enjoyed it.”

There always seems to be a line players aren't supposed to cross when it comes to celebrating a home run. At this point in time, the game and the players within it allow sluggers to pose for SportsCenter and stare at their homers as they leave the yard. Years ago this was a punishable offense. Nowadays you have to take your celebration to the next level to really piss of a team.

So, did Ortiz go passed that line of acceptability last night? I think he did, and obviously, so did Girardi. And between that, losing a fifth straight to Boston, and almost losing your first basement to a knee injury, I can't image this was one of Girardi's better nights.

Who knows what he will do if anything, but if I'm Girardi I know what I'm telling Burnett before tonight's game, and involves a fastball aimed right at David Ortiz's knees.

Ortiz on Jorge: "They are doing that guy wrong"

Apparently, David Ortiz felt the need to offer up his opinion on the Jorge Posada situation. Here's the story from Roger Rubin:

Red Sox slugger David Ortiz offered all kinds of support for Jorge Posada Saturday night, but the one thing he didn't agree with was his decision to ask out of the lineup. No matter how much Posada has struggled with the transition to DH and no matter the blow to his ego at being dropped to No. 9 hole in the order, "you don't do that," Ortiz said.

"As a DH when you just think about hitting and you're not hitting, it just (stinks)... the confusion, the frustration that you're living will sometimes make you make a mistake," Ortiz said. "You're not perfect. You're human like everyone else. He probably thought it was the right thing to do, but now you see it isn't. It's not easy."

Ortiz said he thought almost every aspect of Posada's difficult season - from his struggle adapting to the DH role to Saturday night's confusing situation - could have been avoided if the Yankees had taken better care of the veteran catcher.

"They are doing that guy wrong. They're doing him wrong," Ortiz said after the Red Sox's 6-0 win. "You know why? He's legendary right there... and from what I heard they told him at the beginning he's not even going to catch in the bullpen. That's straight up. That mixes up your head.

"You're going to tell me Posada can't catch a game out there? Come on, man. And I guarantee you if they throw him out there once in a while, mentally it's going to help him out because then he's not just thinking about hitting."

Not that his opinion really matters, but I completely disagree with his first point. The Yankees haven't treated Posada poorly at all, at least not when it comes to DHing him or batting him 9th. However, his second point isn't a bad one. I don't think starting Posada behind the plate once in a while will hurt the team that much and it could help him at the plate, so I wouldn't be against that. Would you?
