Manny Wants to be a Yankee?

From George A. King III:
Having successfully orchestrated his divorce from Boston and his landing in with the Dodgers, Manny Ramirez would like to make life miserable for the Red Sox during the next few seasons.

According to people who have spoken to the eccentric outfielder since he was dealt to L.A. on July 31, Ramirez wants to sign a free-agent deal with the Yankees this offseason and get 19 chances a year to punish Boston.

"He wants to play for the Yankees so he can get at the Red Sox," a close friend of Ramirez's told The Post.

Of course, every free agent says he wants to play for the Yankees. They pay well, will always have a chance to make the postseason, and when they show an interest in a free agent, the price from other clubs skyrockets.

Manny is a great ballplayer, and he will go into the Hall of Fame on the first ballot, but he's 36, on the decline, and he's a head case, so I'd have to pass on this one. We don't need Manny being Manny in the Bronx.

Let me know what you think. Either leave a comment below, or vote in the poll on the left. Thanks.

Manny hits any pitching, anywhere, anytime. In the postseason he doesnt choke like Arod. I want him to sign here, but there's so many things that have to happen first. That would mean Abreu and one of Matsui/ Damon would have to hit the road. Damon and Matsui both only have 1 more year left on their contracts after this year, so I dont know what team would want them for 1 year. Can Nady play first base? Then you can have Manny DH, and have Melky( Who I would want them to upgrade over), and 2 of Abreu, Damon, Matsui in the outfield.

They wouldnt have to then sign Teixeira to a possible $200 million contract. Manny could get 3 years for around 18-20 mil per, loaded with incentives, like if he bats .300+ he gets $1,000,000, 40+ homers another million or 2. IMO Manny is a much scarier hitter than Teixeira. Although I understand Teixeira plays great defense.

Just the thought of him wanting to get back the Red Sox has to spark an interest. Hes been outstanding in LA so far, and he would be coming home to the Bronx.

I dont think they'll sign him though, but who will? Mets, maybe?

I honestly am not seeing the decline. He still hits over 300. gets 35-40 homers and over 100 RBI's. He has never been good defensively and he could be the DH.

Last year was his worst season of his career, and he hasn't played in more than 133 games since '05. He's also a terrible defensive outfielder.

Scouts have also said his bat has slowed down a bit, which is why he sits when he faces hard-throwers like Felix Hernandez and Joba.

Like Matsui and Damon are a sure thing to play in more than 130 games. This will also help out Jeter and A-Rod. Jeter will get better pitches to hit and A-Rod will have great protection.

I don't remember saying they were.

Anyway, why add another old player to the roster who can't play a full year?

I just don't like the idea. In my opinion he's not what he used to be, and he's not worth all the headaches.

Why not? We sure need some laugh in this city. Our team is too big a source of depression. I actually felt like crying my eyes out in the 8th inning.
And Manny can hit. I'd love to see him make PAPELBUM howl like a baby.
