Hank Wants Yanks To Get Manny

From Jon Heyman:
Yankees co-owner Hank Steinbrenner is said by people close to him to want Manny Ramirez in pinstripes. Unlike his father, who dreaded dreadlocks, Steinbrenner the junior is said by a Yankees person "not to give a (hoot) about his hair.''

With about $160 million going to Sabathia, Mark Teixeira is all but out of the Yankees' picture. But even if they sign three free-agent pitches -- and if they don't get either Derek Lowe or A.J. Burnett, with Ben Sheets next on the radar -- the Yankees are mulling a run at Ramirez. The Dodgers have been pursuing Ramirez, and if the Angels miss out on Teixeira, they might join the Manny fray as well.
The Yanks should take the $20 million they apparently are willing to give Manny and give it to Teixeira. Yes it will be a much longer deal - probably five or six year longer - but Teixeira is younger actually fills a real need; first base. The Yanks already have enough corner outfielders/DHs, they don't need another. What they do need is a switch-hitting, gold glove first baseman.

I honestly do not understand this. They are going to cost roughly the same amount of dollars per year, so, why not Tex. This is certainly more of a business move than a baseball move. I don't like that. Sure, Manny will probably destroy the Red Soxs for this one year, but when he gets bored, he will return to the old Manny again.

I totally agree. This makes no sense to me at all.

I like the Manny idea. I think he will be motivated to stick it to Boston and A-Rod and Jeter will make sure he behaves on the field and in the clubhouse. The long term bigtime contracts should go to the stud free agent pitchers.

Save a whole bunch of money and pick up Adam Dunn instead.

I like the Manny idea, too, but I'd have to see Tex as a priority.

But it would be nice to have Manny when we play the Sux....

But Tex is more of what we need....

I'm just SO conflicted!
