I'm thinking the first name they should go after is Ty Wigginton...Hes a guy who can play multiple positions all across the diamond while putting up above average power numbers.
I remember him having a very solid couple of months in Houston last year. I think he'd be a great fit for the yankees as he is very versatile.
None of the pitchers look tempting or to appealing.
I know someone will say hey go willy taveras!!! But he's just a black version of Brett Gardner and wont help anything but makes things worse...

I agree about Wigginton and Tavares. I think Wigginton would be a nice pickup.

I also think Saito is a player I wouldn't mind coming over. Last year he was 4-4 with a 2.49 ERA, 1.19 WHIP and 18 saves. I wonder if he'd like to be our setup man? He might want to close and even if he doesn't he might be too expensive. He's also 38 and coming off a year where he was injured, which may be an issue. But he's been great in his three years in the majors.

first time commenting, long time reader..

Cashman should take a shot at Chris Capuano as the #4 starter if Andy doesn't come back, and Chris Burke for utilty role. Cashman wanted Capuano last season but didn't go through.

i don't know man...all these names don't look appealing at all. about Ty Wigginton, after Betemit, i think i've lost all my faith to the type of player who can play every position. i know he's different from Betemit, but it just doesn't feel comfortable. I do agree with you on Saito. if he doesn't ask for too much (??), i think we can take him for short contract.

I'm intrigued by RP Yhency Brazoban and SP Daniel Cabrera.

Brazoban was an OF prospect with the Yankees, before they converted him into a reliever and shipped him to LA in the Kevin Brown deal in 2004. With the Dodgers, he had good success as a reliever and was primed to take over the closers role it appeared before he went down to injury. After finally reaching the majors recovering from Tommy John, he went down again with a torn labrum. I think he could be a Yankees project on a cheap minor league deal, maybe turn into a Brian Bruney type middle reliever.

SP Daniel Cabrera, believe it or not, still has a ton of upside after 5 sub-mediocre seasons as a starting pitcher for the Baltimore Orioles. I think the Yankees could get him cheap, and his problem is repeating his delivery consistently. He wasn't very successful as a starting pitcher, but if the Yankees turn him into a reliever, I think he can find success in a "Just let it rip" environment. One inning a game, he can probably consistently sit at 98-100 mph if he emptied the tank each outting. And, he wouldn't have to worry about being consistent through an entire game, for 7+ innings. One and done may be the way to go with Daniel.

Saito is the only one that is appealing. He does have injury issues though. If he were healthy, he would not have been non-tendered. The Dodgers would kept him or traded him. Wigginton is going to get a starting job, maybe the Twins, or the Indians, so, he is not likely. Everyone else is a big no. Though, Proctor without Torre might be a better pitcher. Her had surgery, so, he could come back better.

Capuano and Chuck James....At least give them a look.

I might bring Scott Proctor back. Jonny Gomes can hit home runs.. nice bat off the bench.

Brazoban used to be a Yankee, no? doesn't he have a nice arm?

Mathis- 25 arm/shoulder problems

Cabrera- 27 I think could be a good pitcher still

Bautista- no

Wigginton- 31 good player but I doubt he can play all those positions anymore (3B and OF its more likely)

Abrecrombie- I'll give him a chance

Taveras- 26 yes he has speed and if we can teach him patience I think he'll be a good player, especially if that means no Cameron.

Gomes- no, lot of power.

Saito- just too old

Proctor- elbow surgery, but since he is used to NY I can see us bringing him back

Brazoban- too many arm problems

Berroa- I don't see a fit here

Hensley- lot of talent, but hasn't been the same since the he hurt his shoulder

Haeger- don't know too much about him, but I don't like knuckleballers

Redding- at age 30 and no good stuff don't see the point

Belisle- 28 coming back from knee surgery

Majewski- 28 shoulder problems

Capuano- 30 y/o lefty coming back from TJ surgery, has good stuff I'll give him a chance in AAA

Cash- NO

James- rotator cuff and labrum surgery, too many injuries for me

Burke- 28 I think he is a minor league player at best.

we should bring back scott proctor to help bolster the bullpen...

Proctor-No, his arm is dead after being overused by Torre. Where would he pitch anyways with the already crowded bullpen and AAA?

Taveras-No, isn't he pretty much just a clone of Gardner?

Wigginton-Probably if the Yankees don't see Ransom as their super utility guy.

I like taveras if we are looking for a CF to play now while we wait on the minor leaguers to develop.
