Some Monday Links

Here are some links to start your week off...

- Replacement Level Yankees Weblog projects the 2009 Yankees Ultimate Zone Rating numbers. Ultimate Zone Rating is
"The number of runs above or below average a fielder is in both range runs and error runs combined."

While the Yankees still don't appear to be a great defensive team, it looks like they will be much better than last year. But with the addition of Teixeira, and the subtraction of Abreu and Giambi, you probably knew that already.

- Derek Cartey of The Hardball Times takes a look at Robinson Cano from a fantasy baseball persepective, and discusses what kind of year he may have in 2009. Unlike some Yankees fan, he doesn't believe that Cano is done.

- The Subway Squawkers take a look at the Yankees and Mets new stadium patches.

- Former Yankees coach Don Zimmer is recovering from a stroke he had last month. He says it was minor, and that he's fine and expects to be back in uniform this year.
"I'm fine," he added. "For a while, I had a little trouble getting around, but I'm getting better at that every day, too. I've got just about everything back, all of my speech."
Here's wishing you a speedy recovery Zim.

- One of Zimmer's former players took aim at George Steinbrenner and the Yankees spending. Blaming that for why his Red Sox never won anything. Take it away Jim "cry baby" Rice:
When asked about Boston's failure to win a World Series during his career - 1975 to 1989 - up to the Bambino-busting 2004 season, Rice pointed directly to the Bronx.

"During that time, Steinbrenner spent more money than the Red Sox," Rice said. "He had more free agents. So when you get the best free agents, and you get the superstars from other ballclubs, that's what made you have a better team. The more money you can spend, the better you should get."

Even now, Rice remains annoyed by the Yankees’ habit of throwing money at their problems. Not surprisingly, he lauds Red Sox general manager Theo Epstein for doing things the right way. "If you look at the Red Sox now, you see them bringing guys up in the organization," he said. "That's why Theo has been the person he's been over the last couple of years. He'll bring young kids up and stay within the organization.

"The Yankees haven't won in the last eight years. What do they do? They go out and buy high-priced players in the hope to get back the winning percentage they had 10 years ago."
Oh, and by the way, you don't deserve to be in the Hall of Fame.

LOL @ Jim Rice. Red Sox offered 170million to Teixeira. They paid 50 million just to negotiate with Matusaka. Red Sox along with the Mets have a huge advantage over the rest of league except for the Yankees. Red Sox are a bunch of babies I'm tired of them whining.

Anonymous 1, what the hell is wrong with you? He is our president now, so you better get used to him.

He's better than Bush, just be thankful that he's gone.

We definitely need to have President Obama throw the first pitch in the new Yankees Stadium.
