Jenkins: Sabathia might come to rue Bronx Zoo

From Bruce Jenkins:
You can't help but wonder what CC Sabathia thinks of all this. He knew he was signing with a corporate bully, tossing money into the air like confetti, but he had no idea the Yankees' so-called Bronx Zoo would escalate into full-scale chaos so quickly.

For one thing, the Yankees' so-called powerhouse is hardly that. ...
He then goes on to knock pretty much the entire Yankee team.

It's a good thing the Yanks picked up Sabathia and Mark Teixeira for $28.2 billion, or whatever it was, because this is one flawed outfit. And that's just on the field. The A-Rod circus and the residue of Joe Torre's book should make for some really fun times around the clubhouse, and that's a situation Joe Girardi, a manager who likes things nice and simple, won't be able to handle.

And to think, Sabathia's life would have been so much simpler if he'd signed with the Giants. Don't give me this nonsense about "he had to do it" because of the money. He was either going to be an insanely rich Yankee or a ridiculously rich Giant. There are athletes who know the difference, who have settled for less in the name of lifestyle and common sense. CC just might wish he'd joined them.

I don't agree with most of the negatives that Jenkins sees in this Yankee team, nor do I think the San Francisco Giants of all teams, would be a good choice for CC. It's a joke that he calls the Yankees a "flawed outfit," and then several sentences later suggests CC should have signed with the Giants. That's just ridiculous. But there is a relevant question here; do you think that all this drama may be giving CC some second thoughts about signing here?

Just another writer wishing and hoping for CC to fail. The media really has it out for the Yankees organization and their players, and will print anything negative at every opportunity. It's shameful and I hope its a great year ! Hank, Hal, Cashman etc need to put the pedal to the metal and continue building a strong franchise from the minors on up, just to shut up so many Yankee haters.

To answer the question, No, he made his bed / took the money, he's a big man who's not mentally fragile and will do the job asked of him.

right, definitely no drama around the giants in recent history.

We'll see how much he's complaining when we are winning. Winning cures all. When CC is pitching in game 5 of the World Series closing it out and has a parade in New York, we'll see how upset he is.

The "drama" as it were only matters to the writers who create it, and the fans who have nothing better to do than to read it. The players don't care. Even if they hate each other, fuck each others wives, masturbate in public, it just doesn't matter. When it comes down to it, do you think CC is going to be thinking about A-Rod doing Roids when he's delivering a 2-2 pitch to Papi? The short answer is "no." The longer version is that these guys make so much money and get laid whenever they want buy whoever they want no matter how ugly they are, that putting up with these "distractions" is a small price to pay. Remember these guys are playing fucking baseball, not splitting atoms, or curing cancer. Most of what they do is instictual, and ingrained through repitition. All overhype by the media who have pages and web space to fill. Journalism continues its downward spiral to irrelavance.

I think you guys are minimizing these distractions.

And yes, he's a big man, a big man who has never had to deal with anything like New York, especially during this time.

I don't know if it will matter in the end, but there's definitely a possibility that he may be asking himself "What did I get myself into?"

That doesn't mean he won't get adjusted to it, and pitch as well as he would have anywhere else.

Believe me, I don't think this will make his struggle in New York. I actually think he will be fine, and have a great year. But at the same time he could still be a little concerned about the drama that surrounds the Yankees.

this guy is full of shit.
cc did have to sign for more money....the mlbpa would have attacked him if he did not take the higher offer!
the yanks are flawed, i agree, but they are still one of the safest bets for october baseball.
distractions? yeah, there's some, but cc needs to suck it up...i think the yanks & cc will be fine, and should be playing ball in october
