A Statement From Selig

This is a statement from commissioner Bud Selig that was released today regarding A-Rod and PEDs:

“On behalf of Major League Baseball, I am saddened by the revelations concerning Alex Rodriguez’s use of performance-enhancing substances. While Alex deserves credit for publicly confronting the issue, there is no valid excuse for using such substances and those who use them have shamed the game.

What Alex did was wrong and he will have to live with the damage he has done to his name and reputation. His actions are also a reminder to everyone in baseball—under our current drug program, if you are caught using steroids and/or amphetamines, you will be punished. Since 2005, every player who has tested positive for steroids has been suspended for as much as 50 games. Eradicating performance-enhancing substances from the game of baseball has been my first priority over the past decade and it is important to remember that these recent revelations relate to pre-program activity.”

Shut up Selig. While it is true that A-Rod and the rest of the cheaters shamed the game, the fact of the matter is you did too. If you had been paying attention, or cared more about the integrity of the game instead of lining your pockets, maybe the game wouldn't be in the position it is in today. When will you have to "live with the damage" you have done to your name and reputation, and most importantly, the game of baseball?

"Eradicating performance-enhancing substances from the game of baseball has been my first priority over the past decade "

Seriously Bud, you can't possibly be that full of shit, can you? You sat back and watched steroids take over the game for years before being you felt the need to stand up and do something. You're a fraud, and should be kicked out of the sport for life.

And he makes $17 million a year to do it too. How absurd is that?

How about bringing in a proper testing policy and banning first offenders for one year, second offenders for life? I can't believe we're in 2009 and baseball still hasn't come to terms with a problem that athletics had to deal with more than 20 years ago.

Selig is at least as culpable as anyone, if not more so, for the PED.

the guy first turns a blind eye to the problem, and now says he has been trying to eradicate the problem for the past decade...

"Hey pot, this is kettle, your black" Selig is just as guilty for looking the other way, and sweeping everything under the rug...

This guy makes the government look credible.

I for one hope he keeps talking this way, this may be the best shot at expelling him from the game. He should put his balls on the table and suspend ARod for admitting to an anonymous test - that would be the height of irony.

What ever happened to baseball being entertaining to watch. Now everything about everyone is on the news and ESPN.
