(AAA) Scranton/Wilkes-Barre (23-9) lost to Charlotte 1-0: Box Score - RecapWe are lucky enough to have a SWB report from BigGuy tonight.
He won't be doing these all the time by when he does I will
post them. Thanks BG for the great contributions.
The SWB Yankees were defeated 1-0 on an unearned run by Charlotte (White Sox). It was SWB's 3rd straight shutout, and 4th loss in a row. They haven't scored in 37.1 innings. Their record is now at 23-9.
PITCHING: Chien-Ming Wang made a rehab start for SWB. He threw 6 shutout innings, retiring the first 9 men he faced. There was a scary moment in the 4th when Wang was hit in the left leg by a line drive, but he was fine and stayed in the game.
1st Inning: Wang threw a perfect 1st inning on only 5 pitches. He got 2 groundouts, and flyout to center. His fastball topped out at 93.
2nd Inning: Wang took 10 pitches (5 strikes) to get the side in order. A groundout to 3rd, strikeout, flyout to leftfield.
3rd Inning: Wang tossed a perfect 3rd, picking up 2 strikeouts, and a popout to short. Thru 3 innings, 27 pitches--18 strikes.
4th Inning: Wang walked the leadoff man on 4 pitches, but the runner was caught stealing. His 4th K for the 1st out. A single on a liner off Wang's left leg for the first hit. He got Andy Phillips to flyout to end the inning. 12 pitches-6 strikes. 39 pitches thru 4 innings.
5th Inning: Wang gave up a 1-out single on a liner to left center, and a walk. He picked up his 5th strikeout to end the threat.
6th Inning: Wang gave up a leadoff single. He got the next 2 batters on groundouts, with the runner moving up to 3rd. Andy Phillips walked on 4 pitches, but Wang picked up his 6th K to get out of the jam. Wang left with a scoreless tie.
Wang's line: 6.0 IP, 0 runs, 3 hits (1 infield), 6 K--3 walks, 82 pitches--49 strikes, 7 groundouts---4 flyouts.
Here's a quote from Wang from Peter Abraham: “I felt very good today,” Wang said. “Mostly I can keep my sinkers down. I can feel the difference. Stronger, better balance. Of course I want to get back as soon as possible. But it’s really not my call. If they as me to pitch one more time here, that’s all I can do.”
Based on his numbers, I think Wang will probably make one more start in the minors.
UPDATE (11:05 p.m.): Now Peter Abraham is reporting that Cashman told the media that Wang will make one more start in the minors.
BULLPEN: Anthony Claggett relieved Wang and pitched scoreless 7th. In the 8th, Claggett gave up an unearned run on a single, a big error by 3rd baseman Justin Leone on what should have been the 3rd out, and a rbi single gave Charlotte a 1-0 lead and the win.
OFFENSE: The struggling Yankee offense managed only 4 singles, by Juan Miranda, Austin Jackson, Todd Linden and Luis Nunez. The Yanks threatened in the 5th and 6th when they had runners on 1st and 3rd with 2 out, but could not score.
NOTES: Ian Kennedy had his operation to repair the aneurysm in his right shoulder at Roosevelt Hospital in New York today. He won't throw for 6-8 weeks. ... Eric Duncan is now 0-31 in his last 9 games, and is batting .206. ... Chris Chambliss is the Charlotte manager. ... Former Yankee Andy Phillips is playing very well for Charlotte, hitting .342. ... Casey Fossum faces former Yankee Jose Contreras Wednesday.

Alas! AJ Skywalker lost to Yoda Halladay in a Jedi dual.
Hopefully Obi Wang, the one and only Yankees starter who has defeated Yoda Halladay, can come back soon.
BTW, Greg, you insulted the whole weasel species by calling Lonn Trost one of them.

It seems like the old one for me.
