Miguel Angel Sano, a top shortstop prospect, will work out for the Yankees at their academy in the Dominican Republic next Thursday, according to Sano’s agent, Rob Plummer. Sano, who turned 16 last month, is said to be drawing significant interest before the signing period for international players begins on July 2.You can watch a video about Sano here.“I would say he has a Hanley Ramirez body and the possible upside of an Albert Pujols-type bat,” Plummer said. “He has a real short swing and hands that go right to the ball.”
Plummer said the Yankees had maintained steady interest in Sano, who is 6 feet 3 inches and bats right-handed. Sano has been linked to the Pittsburgh Pirates, and The Pittsburgh Post-Gazette wrote last month that he had already been offered more than $3 million. The record bonus for a Dominican player is $4.25 million, which Oakland gave pitcher Michael Inoa last summer.
ESPN's Jorge Arangure's Twitter page had this to say about Sano to the Yankees are also interesting in catcher Gary Sanchez. Here's what last night:
Only way Yanks get on Sano is if they offer $3.5 mill they were going to use on suspended Cuban Felix Perez. Possibility but longshotAnd later in the day he posted this:
One source close to Yanks said chances they land Sano are at 50/50. "If he is 3 mill then yes."He also said this about catching prospect Gary Sanchez:
Yankees have already made it very clear that catcher Gary Sanchez is their top choice in international marketEarlier this week, Kiley McDaniel of Baseball Prospectus also said the Yankees were likely going to sign Sanchez:
Sources indicate that the Angels were the only other team bidding against the Yankees for top July 2nd catching prospect Gary Sanchez (and here's his scouting report) and it's assumed this development only increases the odds that Sanchez will sign with the Bombers. The Yankees feel Sanchez is the top July 2nd prospect this year, and multiple sources indicate that the Yankees are expected to eventually agree to terms with Sanchez on a bonus somewhere in the $3.1-3.4 million range. You can find scouting reports on Sano and Sanchez here (membership required). I'll be honest, I don't know much about either of these kids, but if Sano is anywhere near as good as advertised a few million dollars shouldn't stop the Yanks from signing him.

Just make sure hes really 16. thats all I have to say.
Yes, that is important.
Didn't we find out that Soriano suppose to be 28 but he was like 32?
I'm not sure. It does sound familiar, though.
If memory serves me correctly... After we completed the Arod trade with Texas, they(The Rangers) found out he was not 28 but infact 30.
I think you're right Anon.

There you go.
I hope the Yankees can sign both of these guys. It would really make up for the guys they didn't sign last year in the draft. Sano would right away become the best shortstop prospect in the system and Sanchez would be another great add.
We'd then have 4 POTENTIAL big league catchers, Montero, Romine, Murphy (if they sign him) and Sanchez. Looks like Cashman may be building a solid system.
I would rather have Sano than Sanchez, although both are great prospects. The Yankees already have two highly talented catchers that are prospects right no in Cervelli and Montero
