NY Post: Jays Close To Signing Hechevarria

From George A. King III:
The Post has learned Adeinis Hechavarria is going to get more money than the $8 million Jose Iglesias Iglesias got from the Red Sox.

However, it won’t be from the Yankees. And it has nothing to do with the Yankees not wanting to spend the money on the Cuban refugee shortstop.

According to an industry source Hechavarria is close to signing a $10 million deal with the Blue Jays because he didn’t envision himself playing short for the Yankees.

Hechavarria, 21, was leery of Derek Jeter’s impending extension that will keep him at short for the foreseeable future.
That's pretty big money, I'm kind of surprised the Jays are ready to give him that much.

And I can understand where the kid is coming from, he wants to be a major league shortstop and signing with a team that has a future hall of famer currently manning that position, and about to sign a multi-year extension, would not be in his best interests.

However, I wonder how quickly this 21-year-old can crack the majors. If he takes two or three seasons--he'll only be 23 or 24--he might as well have signed with the Yankees. But, if this kid is as good as people say he is it probably won't take him that long.
