4/25 Minor League Report

PITCHING: Romulo Sanchez got the start for the Yanks. With a 2-0 lead in the 2nd, Sanchez gave up a single, and 2-run homer to Cody Ransom to tie the game. LHV took a 3-2 lead in the 3rd on 2-2 out walks, a stolen base, wild pitch, and rbi single by Ransom. LHV regained the lead 4-3 in the 4th on 2 singles and a stolen base. Sanchez left trailing 4-3.
Sanchez’ line: 5.0 IP, 4 runs, 6 hits, 4 K--4 walks, 2 WP, ERA 8.50, 88 pitches--54 strikes, 7 groundouts - 2 flyouts.

Kevin Whelan who’s really struggled since being called up from AA Trenton threw a scoreless 6th inning, allowing an infield hit. Whelan was credited with the win (1-1).

Royce Ring started the 7th with a strikeout and walk and was relieved by Melancon.

Mark Melancon came on in the 7th (8th appearance) with a runner on 1st, and 1 out. David Winfree made a great diving catch in LF to end the inning. Melancon got 2 easy outs in the 8th before loading the bases on an error and 2 hits, before being relieved.

Jonathan Albaladejo
came on in the 8th with the bases loaded and 2 outs. He got a flyout to strand the bases loaded. In the 9th, he got in and out of a jam after giving up a single and walk to pick up his 5th save.

OFFENSE: Ryan Vogelsong RHP got the start for LHV. Kevin Russo greeted him with a triple to start the 1st. Colin Curtis walked, and red hot Eduardo Nunez followed with a 2-rbi double. David Winfree added a single, but Jesus Montero hit into an inning ending DP. SWB 2-0. The Yanks tied the score at 3 in the 3rd on a Curtis walk, Nunez’ 2nd double of the game, and a Juan Miranda rbi sac fly. The Yanks had the bases loaded in the 4th on walks to Jon Weber and Kevin Russo, with Reegie Corona reaching on an error, but could not score. The Yanks blew another scoring chance in the 5th. Nunez had his 3rd hit of the game, a single, but was stranded at 3rd base for the 3rd time in the game when Winfree and Montero struckout. In the 6th inning with 2 outs the Yankees finally scored again. Corona walked, Russo singled, Curtis followed with a rbi single, and Nunez had his 4th hit, a rbi single, to give the Yanks 2 runs and a 5-4 lead and final score.

MONTERO WATCH: Jesus Montero had his worst game of the year going 0-4. He hit into a DP (4) in the 1st, struckout twice looking, in the 4th and 5th (bases loaded) innings, popped out to 1st in the 7th. He’s been slumping lately going 1 for his last 15. His BA has dipped to a season low .237. There were 3 stolen bases. Montero’s 0-13 in throwing out runners.

NOTES: Former Yankee Cody Ransom was given his WS ring before the game by SWB manager Dave Miley..... Dustin Mosely comes off the DL to start Monday..... Eduardo Nunez continues to pound the ball going 4-4 with 3 rbis. This was his 6th multi hit game..... Kevin Russo with 2 hits, had his 5th multi hit game in his last 6. Reds phenom Aroldis Chapman is slated to pitch at SWB Wednesday.... Former SWB player Austin Jackson hit his 1st ML homer for Detroit.... Christian Garcia underwent his second Tommy John surgery on April 20th.
