News & Notes

- Nick Johnson is out with a stiff back. Between the lack of hitting and how fragile he is, I'm really starting to wish they had resigned Hideki Matsui.

- Andy Pettitte has made 29 career starts against the Angels and is 13-10 with a 4.55 ERA. He pitched six shutout on his way to a win against the Angels back on Opening Day. He's 6-7 with a 4.19 ERA in 16 career starts in Anaheim.

- Joel Pineiro has faced the Yankees 17 times, nine as a starter, and is 3-3, with a 3.22 ERA. He beat the Yankees in the Bronx earlier this month, allowing just one run on five hits in 7 innings pitched.

- In his last 12 games, Alex Rodriguez is hitting .400/.558/.675 with 2 HR, 3 doubles, and 9 RBI.

- With Marcus Thames hitting .500 against Pineiro in his career, maybe today wouldn't have been a bad game to start him. I thought Joe lived by these splits.

Here's Torii Hunter on Mark Teixeira running over catcher Bobby Wilson yesterday:
“He gave him the plate. You can either slide there or take him out,” Hunter said. “I thought it was a little too early in the game to take him out. If he slides, he’s safe regardless. I guess he was on a mission.”
I'm not agreeing that it's ever too early to do that, but I do actually think he was on a mission too. Tex was pissed; he's not hitting and he just got plunked.
