Next Step For Joba Planned for Wednesday

Several sources are reporting that Joe Girardi has said that the next step in transitioning Joba Chamberlain from starter to reliever will probably happen Wednesday. The plan is to get Joba up to 55 pitches, but Girardi said "the plan is not set in stone."

When asked about Joba possibly getting a start or two in the minors Girardi said the Yanks would "like to try to keep him here to help us," Girardi said. Hopefully they can.

I was thinking about this the other day, one option the Yankees have is to start a game with Joba on the mound, and have a guy like Rasner or Kennedy ready to come in after he reaches his pitch count. I think it would be good for Joba to actually start a game while this process is going on.

Lets say that Joba pitches 6 innings of a 2 hit shut out. You still pull him?

Leaving the game in the hands of Kennedy and Hawkins at that point does not give me a warm fuzzy feeling.

Rasner cannot be taken out of the starters roll now. Don't mess with success. Hawkins proved that yesterday.

You would have to take him out. His health is more important than one win.

Then as the manager you know what you are opening yourself up to when Hawkins blows the game in the 8th.

Very true, which is why this will probably be very difficult for Girardi.
