Baseball America's Top 10 Yankees Prospects

From Steve Lombardi who just received the print edition of the Nov 17th-30th issue of Baseball America today:

1. Austin Jackson OF
2. Jesus Montero, C
3. Andrew Brackman, RHP
4. Austin Romine, C
5. Dellin Betances, RHP
6. Zach McAllister, RHP
7. Alfredo Aceves, RHP
8. Phil Coke, LHP
9. Mark Melancon, RHP
10. Bradley Suttle, 3B

You could make arguments that some people should have cracked the list, but all in all I don't have a problem with the list as it is. Do you?

I guess the reason why Brackman is #3 is because his upside, then why isn't Montero #1 and Jackson #2. I don't know but it doesn't make any sense to me.

Brackman's upside is ridiculous, that's why he's so high. And most scouts put Jackson higher on the totem pole than Montero because he's a superior athlete.

True but if you know that Montero's cealing is higher than Jackson's.

But what the hell, I'm glad we still have those players.

If you factor in defense Eliezer, Montero's ceiling is not higher. There's already talk that Montero will size himself out of playing catcher which will put him either playing first or DH'ing. Jackson might not have the power of Montero, but Jackson has all the tools. He could be a gold glove center fielder with his speed.

You can say that Jackson is more athletic than Montero and that Montero is going to grow himself out of the C position and I'll agree with that but so far last year Montero in 71 games as a C his defensive line wasn’t bad at all he had 529 PO 55 A 4 E and 11 PB compare that to Jorge during his last AAA year 94G 598 PO 51 A 10 E and 10 PB, he turned out to be a good defensive C. Jackson played OF in 113 games 217 PO 7 A and 3 E, not bad numbers but not great for the position.

With all that said I still don’t want Montero to play at the C position and I hope we move him to 1B if so I can see his ceiling go higher, he could be as good as Pujols (asking for a lot I know) more like Howard for A-Jax I have him to be like Torii Hunter type player. My point is this if you ask any GM to pick only one of those 2 players most will say Montero. Players with his type of talent don't come around too often.
