Ortiz: A-Rod will play for the Domincan in the WBC

From Gordon Edes (hat tip to Scott Proctor's Arm):

The New York Yankees’ third baseman, who was on a star-studded U.S team that failed to advance to the semifinals of the first WBC, plans to play for the Dominican Republic this spring, according to Dominican slugger David Ortiz of the Boston Red Sox.

Ortiz is hosting a charity golf tournament in the Dominican city of Punta Cana this weekend. He said Rodriguez, who is playing in the tournament, is expected to announce his decision at the function. Rodriguez and Ortiz are close friends.

“He wants to play for the Dominican team,” Ortiz said by telephone Thursday. “We’ll talk about it now after he gets here, and he’ll probably announce it here.”

I personally don't care about this, he can play on whatever team he wants, and as an American I'm not offended that he wants to play for the Dominican Republic. But isn't this just the kind of stuff that makes a lot of people dislike him and think he's a complete phony?

Actually, denying your heritage is way more phony in my belief....

What? Like I said, I don't personally care where he plays.

All I'm talking about is switching from country to country can make him look like a fraud.

I don't care what people think of him as long as he keeps putting up the good numbers. In fact, he is due for another MVP this year.

Of course he's a phony. But I don't care where he plays. In fact, he's one of those guys I just don't care about period. Sure, I hope he gets hits with the bases loaded, but there's something about him that makes me feel sick.

Who cares about the WBC?
A-Rod can play for Team Mars for all I care.
It is his performance in clutch situation next season that matters.

Alex is a fruity clown as always.

Yeah, I don't give a rat's ass where he plays or if he plays at all in the WBC. But i do have one request for Mr. A-Rod. Do us all a favor and stop the commercials. Have you seen the new guitar hero commercial? You would hope that maybe he got some rhythm by injection hanging out with Madonna on the late night sneak tip, but that doesn't seem to be the case here.
