Ripping Up The Field

Here are some very sad pictures. At least they're very sad to me. They come to us from WCBS 880's Tom Kaminski, who took them from Chopper 880. As you can tell, they show the field at Yankee Stadium being ripped up. There are some more pics over on the WCBS site.

Do you think they saved the sod or they just ripped it up? It looks very neat which makes me think they saved the grass. Wouldn't it have been cool if we could have gone down to the stadium and each taken a piece of sod for our back-yards or gardens??? I would have been down there with a pick-up truck yesterday!

I gotta believe they saved it and will sell it.

NOOO THEY CAN'T DO THIS!
whhhhyyyy?!

it would have been cool for them to transfer this grass over to the new stadium. if they could pick it up so cleanly i wonder why they didn't. it would have been cool for us to atleast say they are playing on the same "field" at the new stadium. weird to see it missing

ack wtf!!!!
they are turning the area into a park with a baseball diamond why dont they leave the field alone so that the kids play on the real deal?

why are all these projects designed and run by morons?

What's even more depressing is that you can see the interlocking "NY" is starting to fade. That truely shows the end of the "House That Ruth Built".

what are they gonna do with the "26 world championships" sign that's in old yankee stadium? are they gonna put it in the new one, or make another one?

oh no. is it possible the city is going to put down hat fake turf crap so they dont have to mow the field?

Goodbye Yankee Stadium:

My first game at this "new" Yankee Stadium was against the Royals April 23, 1976 vs. the KC Royals.

Over the next 32 years saw many great games, had many great memories. Sad to see it go, but secured in the knowledge that in about 35 years, my future grandkids will be sitting right back in the place where this stadium once stood (well they will move it a bit to the south and to the right to get the bigger building).

You see, we all know that in about 35 years the 2009 version of Yankee Stadium will be out of date and the Yankees will need a new stadium. The "elderly" Hal and Hank Steinbrenner will declare that its time to put the stadium back in it original location. The press will eat it up and construction will begin.

If I make it, I will be in my 90s but my daughter and if she is blessed with kids will go back to this historic site.

Those of you who are under 30, relax! You'll be back!

Enjoy the knowledge that you will be back in the "old ballpark in the bronx" in no time. The owners will always want bigger and better, and they will just piggy-back these stadiums about every 35 or so years. Tear one down - buid one up.

Liam,

I don't know. I think I rather have had it torn down like Shea. Its like removing a bandaid, the faster it goes, the less painful it is...This is a SLOW death for a place that holds so many wonderful memories.

I am so looking forward to the new stadium I can't contain my joy.

After seeing these pictures, however, I can't contain my sorrow. I was having a great day, but right now I'm sitting here in my office with tears in my eyes. The bastards--go ahead, take another part of my soul, you worthless pukes. Sweet Jesus, I'm bumming out....

Mike

PS I'll get over it when I come up for the opening homestand, but right now I feel.... hell, that's enough...

There used to be a ball park here....
