He just can't stay out of the spotlight, can he?

Here's A-Rod on the cover of this month's Details magazine. The magazine did a profile on him for this month's issue titled, "Alex Rodriguez: Cofessions Of A Damned Yankee." The article itself is pretty good, and he doesn't put his foot in his mouth or anything. You know, like he usually does.

He went into many topics during the interview, including politics:
He mentions that he voted for Obama. "I'm cheering hard for him," he says. "But we have to give him time and be patient."
A souvenir he took from the old stadium:
He tells me he grabbed a souvenir seat from the old ballpark before it was shuttered. "What I really wanted I couldn't get," Rodriguez says. "There was a scale in the training room that had been there for years. Very cool, rustic, gold. Babe Ruth weighed himself on that scale. Joe DiMaggio. Mickey Mantle. I would have paid a funny number for that."
Michael Phelps' bong photo:
He says he feels bad for Michael Phelps, who's recently been photographed lip-locked to a bong.
How he wasn't the best behaved child:
Rodriguez says that he once accidentally set fire to the apartment, ruining thousands of dollars' worth of merchandise. "I was a menace," he says. "Out of control."
About quitting baseball at the age of 12 because he thought he had a future in the NBA:
"I quit baseball at the age of 12," he says, sliding his chair back and bumping a female diner behind us, who turns around with a "Hey, aren't you . . . ?" stare. "I was convinced I was going to play in the NBA. And my mother gives me an NBA roster and a highlighter and says, 'Line out all the Dominican players you find there.'"

"I looked for 15 minutes and couldn't find one," he says. "Then she pulls out a Major League Baseball roster—over 100 Latin players. 'Okay, Mom.' Two weeks later, I was back at baseball."
And how he sometimes take the subway to The Stadium on game days:
"I've taken the subway to the stadium," he says, smiling. "For night games. The day to do it is a Friday, because traffic is horrible."

You've taken the subway?

"Yeah. I have a hoodie on, but all it takes is one person and then you're done. But it's great. The fans get a kick out of it, I get a kick out of it. We talk about who's pitching tonight, and what we need to do. It's like being on sports radio."
There were also the Madonna questions, questions about Torre's book, his relationship with his ex-wife Cynthia, all the usual stuff. Oh, and he begged the author not to release the name of his favorite Madonna song because he didn't want to have to hear it played in every baseball stadium the Yankees went to this year.

All in all, it was a good article and he doesn't make himself sound like a jackass. But that's just the article itself. It's a picture that's going to be the story of this story. For some reason he decided to allow Details to take, and publish, this, uhhhh, strange photo of him kissing himself in the mirror.

(more photos here)

As you can see, the Post is already having some fun with the image:

Seriously, what the hell is he thinking? He couldn't possibly think that this picture was a good idea, could he?

It says in the article that he loosened up for the photo shoot with a few shots of PatrĂ³n, so maybe that was the cause of his lack of judgment. But doesn't he have an army of handlers around him at all times to stop him from doing stupid s*** like this?

Why can't this guy do anything that doesn't draw (bad) attention to himself?

Atleast he is not grabbing Manny's nuts in a picture like Paplebon

Anon 2,

You do have a point there.

Haha, I love showing that picture to my Red Sox buddies (the Manny/Papelbon one, gotta love living in New England...)

Their excuse? "He was fixing his cup"

I always joke that the real reason Manny left Boston was that Papelbon didn't put out anymore.

hahahah that picture is great. I don't know what he was thinking, but I know if I was a writer I would be dying to interview this guy. He's a huge story just waiting to happen.

This is just A-Rod being A-Rod. If he has a huge year and win a championship for the yankees people will think this kind of stuff is just funny.

There's already rumors coming from the Selena Roberts book about him being gay or at-least bi-sexual.
I think that's what her book will mainly be focused on: his life style.
The big bomb of course was is steroid use. But I see his sexuality being discussed in that book based on rumors.
It has already been out there about him hanging in gay bars in Miami.

A-Rod was married and has 2 children and runs around with female strippers, i dont think he is gay.

I've heard those rumors about A-Rod. To be honest nothing would really surprise me at this point.

Just think, only 9 more years of this...

AROD basks in this shit! When will everybody get that he loves the attention he loves staying relevant. He is a MEDIA WHORE and laughs at everybody who asks why he does this shit. You don't think he knew he would be on the front page with this ridiculously gay picture?
If you had his money would you even give a rats ass? This is how he gets his kicks!

To the other Anon, just because he was married doesn't mean he can't be gay.
I guess you never heard of a man on the DL? DL= Down Low

There are plenty gay athletes they're in the closet for a reason. And they pass themselves off as straight guys.
