The left-hander Damaso Marte reaches the end of his rehabilitation assignment this weekend, but Girardi said Marte was still not ready for the majors. “We’re not sure if he’s going to get there,” Girardi conceded. Marte, who allowed two hits in an inning Friday for Class AAA Scranton/Wilkes-Barre, has shoulder inflammation and has not reached 93 miles an hour consistently.Personally, I don't care what happens to Marte. Since trading for the lefty last season he's been nothing but a disappointment. Besides that the Yankees bullpen is fine, and if they really need another lefty that badly they should call up Zach Kroenke from Triple-A.

Waiting for Marte? Well, keep waiting

Yeah, I really don't care about Marte either. Hopefully the Yanks will just cut him to get it over with. I don't really know why the Yanks re-signed him anyway.
Plus, why did they put him on a 30-day rehab assignment? Usually it's as much time as he needs until someone is major-league ready again.
All rehab assignments are 30 days for pitchers, 15 days for position players.
They're probably going to shut him down with another "injury" to restart the clock and bring him up sometime in September. If he was actually injured and they had serious questions about his health, he wouldn't have been pitching right now.
Greg,
I agree with you. Marte has been an extreme disappointment. Bad move by Cashman. This guy has no backbone.
Terrible trade for the yanks. Marte last year had a 5.40 era and Cashman gave him a 3 year deal when he could of just signed him for his 1 year option. Cashman is a moron.
Ross Ohlendorf would look a lot better than having to watch Sergio Mitre pitch every 5 days.
The same Ross Ohlendorf with a 4.30 ERA in the NL who was a reliever in the Yankees system?
Sergio Mitre was a backup to the backup's backup option for that rotation role. I don't understand what's so difficult to grasp about that.
Did Cashman know Wang was going to be horrific? Did Cashman know Kennedy would go down with a serious surgery? Did Cashman know that he would need Phil Hughes to stabilize the bullpen?
The Yankees gave up nearly nothing for Marte and Nady. Marte has been misused or hurt nearly his entire time with the Yankees. But yeah, it's a horrible trade, Cashman is an idiot for making it.
@ owine
Ohlendorf would of been a very good reliever or an adequate 5th starter. Bottom line is Cashman got nothing from the deal. Marte was a bust it was pretty obvious watching him last year.
Look at Cashman evaluation of the bullpen in the beginning of the season. He thought guys like Marte, Edwar Ramriez, Albaledejo and Jose Veras would get the job done LOL. The bullpen cost the team some games in april and may. It's his own fault the bullpen was so horrible at the start of the season.
He had to take Aceves and Hughes and put them into the bullpen. The only starter that got hurt was Kennedy. If Cashman can properly build a bullpen he wouldn't be forced to use all his quality starters in triple a in the bullpen. The guy is a moron he gets bailed out by Steinbrenner's money.
Look at those same guys last year. They were very good. The problem throughout baseball is bullpen composition. Guys have a good year and then come back to earth. Cashman has completely reloaded the bullpen at this point in the season and turned a weakness into a strength.
As for the trade, Ohlendorf may have amounted to a decent reliever, but his ceiling is lower than the level Marte can consistently perform at. Marte is signed for a couple more years, so the fruits of the trade remain to be seen. Had Nady not been hurt this year and been a solid contributor, we would be heralding the trade. Injuries happen. At the time, the trade appeared to be a steal, but nobody can predict players getting injured.
Release Edwar put Kroenke on the 40 man and call him up in september.
Zach Kroenke? Nah I vote Mike Dunn as another lefty to come up.
Kid has electric stuff.
