In Other Baseball News...

Two fairly significant trades were completed today:

The Oakland A's continue to clean-house, sending CF Mark Kotsay to the Atlanta Braves for RP Joey Devine and a minor league pitcher. The A's will also be picking up a large portion of Kotsay's $7.35M salary. Kotsay is coming off his worst year in the majors, hitting .214, with 1 HR and 20 RBI. To be fair, he was injured for most of the year (only played in 56 games) and was never able to get into a groove at the plate. . .Don't be surprised if Joe Blanton and Huston Street are next.

Joey Devine is a 24 year old RP, who in 10 games for the Braves last season was 1-0 with a 1.08 ERA.

The Cardinals and Blue Jays also completed their deal, swapping third baseman. Troy Glaus will go to St. Louis in exchange for Scott Rolen. Both players had sub-par years last year and both also missed time due to injury. Rolen hit .265 with 8 HR, and 58 RBI for the Cardinals in only 112 games, and Glaus hit .262, with 20 HR, and 62 RBI, in 115 games. Glaus' season was also marred by controversy, when SI.com reported that Glaus received multiple shipments of nandrolone and testosterone between September '03 and May '04. I'm thinking a change of scenery will help both of these players.

If Rolen had a hard time getting along with LaRussa, wait til he meets Gibbons.

True, this could be a disaster for the Jays... I hope it is.
