The New York Mets and Johan Santana have not yet reached an agreement on a contract extension. Metsblog.com is reporting that the two sides have been given a additional two hours to negotiate a deal. If a deal is not reached in two hours the Mets can ask for another extension.
Ken Rosenthal reported that the Mets offered Santana approximately $22 million per season, which would be by far the highest salary ever for a pitcher. However, the length of contract remains an issue, and has held up the deal. He also said that Santana is in the room with Mets representatives and his agents. It appears that a deal is very close.
