News and Notes from Tampa

- Peter Abraham notes that Jason Giambi is supposedly in great shape. A friend of Giambi's told Ian Kennedy, who lives near Jason in Nevada, that
Jason has been working hard since November. The Big G has dropped a lot of weight, has been hitting nearly every day and will show up next week in great shape.
- Joba Chamberlain loves to talk smack to all of his teammates. Yesterday, Kat O'Brien tells us, "he took on Mike Mussina. He challenged Mussina in video games, then ping pong, each of which Mussina said he doesn't play. As Mussina walked out of the clubhouse, Chamberlain said something with no response from Mussina, then called out: 'The hearing's the first thing to go when you get old, right?' Mussina popped back around the corner to say: 'I hear everything you say. I hear everything you think.'"

- Mark Feinsand reports that Mussina has taken Hughes and Kennedy under his wing, and is acting as a mentor to the kids: “If I’m going to sit there and talk to Kennedy about pitching, it makes sense to have Hughes there, too,” Mussina said.

- Yogi is not a fan of cheaters. Roger Clemens' jersey was removed from a display honoring the Yankees teams of the late 1990s. Here's some more from MLB.com:

Kaplan said the decision to remove the jersey was not made to generate publicity, but was done in response to allegations of steroid use by Clemens that resulted in Wednesday's Congressional hearing where the seven-time Cy Young Award winner testified.

"It was the fact that there are a lot of unresolved issues involving Roger and it was difficult for us to give answers to the kids coming through the museum," Kaplan said.

- Posada discusses steroids:

“For me, I didn’t want to do anything like that,” Posada said. “I was worried about the side effects and what it could do to you. Could it cause cancer or something? You don’t know.”

“Why would I do that?” he said. “You could lose everything. It’s not worth it. It affects your family. It affects everything.”

- And Joe Girardi isn't the biggest fan of green tea.
