Martinez and Marichal laugh before releasing the roosters. The two took part as honorary "soltadores," the word used to describe the person who puts the animal to fight.I don't know about you guys, but I love animals, so I enjoy when idiots like Michael Vick and Pedro (I do think what Vick did was much worse) get what I feel they deserve. I can't wait to see PETA at all the Met games this season.
The animal released by Martinez appears to be killed on the video, which was posted Tuesday. The fight takes place in the Coliseo de Gallos (Rooster Coliseum) in Santo Domingo, the Dominican Republic's biggest cockfighting venue. Cockfighting is legal and popular in the Dominican Republic.
Here is the video from TMZ.

I like animals too, but I understand how much difference between different cultures as I am Taiwanese who has stayed at many different countries.
I agree that there are certain practices that take place in other cultures that one should respect even though they may not agree or understand them.
However there are some things that take place that are just wrong. It's wrong that in certain cultures it's common practice to stone women to death because they may have shown their face in public, driven a car, or cheated on their husband.
Now I don't put oppressing an entire portion of the population on the same level as cock-fighting, but I do feel that killing animals for fun is wrong, especially when it involves torturing the animal to make the event more "fun". Some will disagree, and that's fine, it's just the way I feel.
I agree with Greg on this one. This stuff is barbaric.
Do you eat chicken? Trust me, they don't have a good life.
Would you rather live your life in a factory farm without enough room to even walk around, crammed in a pen with 10,000 other chickens, but die "humanely" or be raised to fight and go out in a blaze of glory?
If I were a chicken, I'd go for the later... Cock fighting Hurrah!
Yes I eat chicken, but at least they are killed for a purpose when they are eaten. It's like hunting, I don't mind if people hunt if they're going to eat what they kill.
LOL I agree with that - chickens probably don't live the most wonderful lives, but I don't know if I'd want to be tortured and forced to fight to the death, even if I was a chicken.
And don't misunderstand me, I'm not outraged at this, I just don't like animal cruelty.
Also I don't want people to misunderstand where I'm coming from here. I'm not outraged at this, I just don't like it. What Pedro did, is nowhere near what someone like Michael Vick did.
