Former MLB pitcher and life-long douchebag John Rocker was on an
From MSNBC:
Here is Major League Baseball's response to Rocker's comments:“Looks guys, if you take one kind of steroid, you don’t triple stack them and take them 10 months out of the year like Lyle Alzado did,” Rocker said the doctors told them. “If you do it responsibly, it’s not going to hurt you.”
“As part of the disciplinary process, Mr. Rocker was referred to the confidential Employee Assistance Program. Any test of Mr. Rocker would have been conducted by professionals who ran the EAP. Those professionals were obligated to maintain the confidentiality of the result and to use it in developing a treatment and education program for Mr. Rocker. Further discipline was not an option legally available to Major League Baseball at that time.”If Rocker is telling the truth about this meeting, than this is just about the worst thing that could come out about baseball's steroid era. Not only did MLB and the players' association know about the rampant steroid use that infected the game, but played an active role in making things worse. Instead of trying to prevent players from cheating, they made it easier for them...Unbelievable... For the sake of the game I really hope that this crack-pot is lying.
Fans were upset about this, steroids in baseball did bother us, but I think I speak for most when I say we were passed. We were ready to move on and enjoy the game we love. Last year's record breaking ticket sales were a encouraging sign of that being true. But now, instead of the optimism and joy of a new season, we're dealing with 24-hour, wall-to-wall steroid coverage, thanks to the Mitchell Report and the ensuing fallout.
Was this all really necessary? I don't think so. Not only have people's lives been ruined, but the league looks worse in our eyes than it ever has. And it doesn't appear that it's going to get better any time soon.
Thanks again Bud.
