Woodward Released

Peter Abraham is reporting that the Yankees have released Chris Woodward. This is what he gets for hitting .393, and outplaying both Ransom and Betemit. I'm very disappointed.

That's too bad.

I really don't care, but I just think he's earned it. Ransom hasn't been bad either. Betemit, on the other hand, is playing horribly and will make the team.

In Better-Meat's defense, and not saying this is a great excuse... but after finding about his contract extended every press line-up noted that his spot on the bench along with Molina's was gauranteed. So he may have a mental sabbatical as far as competing for a roster spot.

If things were made clear that Betemit was competing for a roster spot, he may have busted it a little harder.

Now like I said, Molina was also gauranteed, and he busted his hide all spring, so there is no excuse for Betemit being lax if that was indeed his intention. But I see where he's coming from if he thought that way.

Woodward is a wanderer, he auditioned for a spot he was almost doomed not to get. Itll hurt, but he's a little used to it by now.

may have TAKEN* a mental sabbatical

You may be right, but that doesn't say much for Betemit.

Like you said, you shouldn't care Greg. His .393 avg doesn't mean sh*t and it shouln't. Just like I've heard you say bad spring stats don't mean anything, good ones shouldn't either. If we are mad about Woddy not making the team, then we should terrified by the fact that, Joba, Hughes, Wang Pettitte, karstens (no I will not UPPERCASE the first letter of his name), and Veras all have ERA's north of 6.00.
Spring is spring, forget about woodward.

Spring stats do matter when you are fighting for a spot.

Woodward earned the spot, so did Ransom. The guy who's getting the spot, didn't earn anything -- That's my beef.

Probably a stubborness from the Yankees coming from the fact that they have more invested in Wilson. Being the fact they gave away a guy who pitched tons of innings for them out of the bullpen in Scott Proctor. To me thats the only thing breathing life into Wilson Betemit's yankee career.

I agree with that, and that's another thing that bothers me - The Yankees shouldn't be keeping players around for those reasons.
