Andy Pettitte showed up at Legends Field hoping to play catch, but his back still didn't feel good enough to let him. That means his week is all screwed up. He probably won't pitch Thursday, as had been scheduled, because even if he feels good enough to play catch tomorrow he'd still have to throw a bullpen on Wednesday. That means he can't pitch until Friday night in Miami, at the earliest.
"It's just the first start of the season," Pettitte just told us. "I want to pitch, obviously, but I want to make sure I don't go into the season with a bad back."
Dan said it was still possible that he will make his scheduled start next Wednesday, but the most important thing is making sure he's healthy before he attempts to pitch a game and possibly makes this worse. If he misses a start or two it's no big deal.
