Reggie Thinks The Boss Belongs in The Hall

Yesterday was the 15th annual Ted Williams Hall of Fame induction ceremony, and Yankees owner George Steinbrenner was one of the inductees, receiving the Ted Willliams lifetime achievement award. Presenting the award was Reggie Jackson, who told the crowd in attendance that he thinks Steinbrenner deserves to be in the Major League Baseball Hall of Fame as well.

"Personally, when it comes to the game and its history, I think I certainly have a case for The Boss, George Steinbrenner," Jackson said. "With his 10 pennants and six world championships, I would give him my nod to one day be elected to the Hall of Fame."

I have to agree. For all his faults George Steinbrenner is one of the best owners in all sports. He understands that the fans want to watch a winner and he does everything he possibly can to try and put a winner on the field every year, and as a fan, you can't ask for anything more.
Ray Negron, a special assistant to Steinbrenner, introduced Roberto Alomar, who was inducted into the hitters' hall with Andre Dawson. Negron said Alomar gave him a ball on the day he retired in March 2005 to give to Steinbrenner. On it, Alomar wrote, "My only regret is not playing for you." (From Newsday)
