Joba Chamberlain started the game and didn't have his best stuff, but got the job done. He pitched 2 1/3 IP, gave up no runs, 2 hits, and struck out 1. His strikeout came on a Nasty curveball to Edwin Encarnacion. ... Billy Traber appears to be the leading lefty candidate for the pen because Girardi brought him in tonight in the 3rd inning to face three pretty good left-handed hitters; Jay Bruce, Scott Hatterberg and Ken Griffey. After giving up a single to Bruce, Traber struck out Hatteberg, and then got Griffey to fly out. ... Mariano Rivera was sharp and took only 13 pitches(8 strikes) to get through his 1-2-3 inning. Mo's retired all six batters he's faced this spring. ... Ian Kennedy then came in, looked a little shaky at first giving up a walk and a single, but settled down as the game went on, and retired the last 9 batters he faced. ... Latroy Hawkins finished off the game. He got hit pretty hard, giving up three hard-hit balls, including one long fly to death valley, but the balls were all hit right at people, and he didn't allow a run.

Giambi then singled, moving A-Rod to third. Hideki Matsui(2-for-3, RBI) then hit an RBI single to make it 2-0 Yankees. ... In the 6th,Brett Gardner beat out a tailor-made double player ball, he stole second, went to third on the throw, and then scored on an Alberto Gonzalez RBI single giving the Yanks a 3-0 lead -- speed kills. ...
