Yanks-Reds End in 7-7 Tie

I hate ties, especially in baseball. Today the Yankees and Reds played a 10 inning game ending in a 7-7 tie. Phil Hughes got the start and did not have one of his better outings, going 2.2 innings and giving up 4 runs on 9 hits with 2 strikeouts. Don't worry folks, it's just spring training, get off the ledge. ... Johnathan Albaladejo then came in and didn't allow a baserunner in his 1.1 IP, he also struck out two. ... Edwar Ramirez pitched a very well, striking out four of the five batters he faced in his 1.2 IP. He didn't allow a hit or a walk. ... It seem that none of the lefties want to solidify their place on this roster, yesterday Traber allowed three inherited runners to score, today Heath Phillips gives up 2 runs on 2 hits and 2 walks in 0.1 IP. ... Chris Britton gave up a run on 2 hits in his inning of work, looks like he will be enjoying Scranton to start the year. ... Dan Giese pitched 2 scoreless innings, giving up only one hit, while striking out 2.

Following a single by Derek Jeter (2-3, R) and a walk to Hideki Matsui (1-3, R, BB), Alex Rodriguez (1-3, 3RBI, R, HR) stepped to the plate and hit a long 3-run homer to center to give the Yankees a 3-0 lead in the 1st. Rodriguez 3rd home run on the spring. Brett Garner (1-2, RBI, R, SB, BB) is proving more and more why the Yankees need someone with his kind of speed, in the second inning today he walked, stole second, and scored on a double by Johnny Damon (1-4, RBI), all with two outs. SPEED KILLS. Gardner also had a 2-out RBI single ... Jason Lane (1-3, R, 2RBI) knocked in 2 runs with a 2-out 2-run single scoring Jorge Posada (1-3, R, 2B) and Shelley "spikes" Duncan (1-3, R).

The Yankees will play split-squad games on Saturday. One against the Tigers at 1:05 p.m. in Lakeland, Fla, and the other against the Rays at 1:15 p.m. at Steinbrenner Field., yes those Rays, and yes Shelley Duncan will be playing in that game. Joba Chamberlain goes for the Yankees against the Tigers, while Justin Verlander gets the start for Detroit. In the other game the Yankees will start Kei Igawa, while Jeff Niemann gets the start for the Rays. Ten bucks says the Rays throw at a Yankee.
