The SWB Yankees snapped a 3 game losing streak defeating Louisville 11-5. After being shut out the last two games by Louisville the bats finally woke up. Shelly Duncan sparked the offense with a 2-run homer, 3 doubles and 3 RBI. The bad news: Alan Horne the Yanks highly touted pitching prospect, left the game after the 2nd inning with a biceps injury to his right arm.
PITCHING: Alan Horne making his 2nd start of the year gave up 4 runs (1 earned) in the 1st inning on a single, a throwing error by Horne on a bunt, 2 rbi singles, and a 2-rbi double. Horne pitched a 1-2-3 second inning before leaving the game with his injury. 2.0 IP, 4 runs, 1 ER, 4 hits, 2 K's, and no walks.
BULLPEN: The bullpen once again was outstanding. They allowed only 1 run over the final 7 innings. ... Dan Giese came on to pitch scoreless 3rd & 4th innings. ... Chris Britton pitched scoreless 5th & 6th innings and picked up his 2nd win. ... Edwar Ramirez worked in and out of a bases-loaded jam for a scoreless 7th. ... Jonathan Albadejo gave up a run in the 8th and pitched a scoreless 9th.
OFFENSE: After being shutout the last 2 games the SWB bats fought back from a 4-0 deficit....... In the 2nd inning they picked up a run when they loaded the bases on a Shelly Duncan double, Juan Miranda walk, Nick Green single. Chad Moeller got the rbi on a sac fly to make the score Louisville 4-1. ...The bats exploded for 4 runs in the 5th. Moeller walked, Bernie Castro reached on a force out of Moeller at 2nd. Brett Gardner beat out an infield hit. Castro and Gardner then pulled off a double steal of 2nd & 3rd base. Justin Christian had a 2-rbi single. Christian stole 3rd base and scored on a balk. Jason Lane was HBP and Shelly Duncan had a rbi double to score Lane giving SWB a 5-4 lead. ...7th inning: Christian walked, Jason Lane had a 2-run homer, his 4th of the young year. ... Duncan doubled, Miranda rbi-single, Green rbi double gave the Yanks 4 runs and made it SWB 9-4. ... In the 8th, Lane doubled and scored when Shelly Duncan hit a 2-run homer to make the final score 11-5.
NOTES: Brett Gardner went 1-5 after missing the last 4 games with an ankle injury. ... Darrell Rasner pitches Friday when SWB makes its 1st road trip to Durham. ... Jeff Marquez goes Saturday.
