4/12 Minor League Report

The SWB Yanks moved into first place after they pummeled the Durham Bulls (Tampa Bay) 16-6. The win raises their record to 7-3 on the season.

PITCHING: Jeff Marquez trying to rebound from a dismal AAA debut when he allowed 8 runs in 4 innings. pitched a good game. He went 5.2 IP, 3 runs, 4 hits, 3 K's and 2 walks. Durham scored 1 run in the 1st on a single, Marquez throwing error, and RBI double. ... He didn't allow another hit until the 5th inning when he gave up a solo homer. He gave up another solo homer to start the 6th. He left leading 8-3 and got the win to even his mark at 1-1. He had 11 ground outs, and 2 fly outs. He threw 79 pitches/49 for strikes.

Scott Patterson relieved Marquez and got the final 2 outs of the 6th inning. ... Heath Phillips pitched a scoreless 7th. ... Phillips gave up 2 runs in the 8th on 2 walks an infield hit and 2 RBI sac flies. ... Scott Strickland relieved Phillips in the 8th and got a pop out for the final out of the inning. Strickland allowed 1 run in the 9th on a solo homer.

OFFENSE: SWB pounded out 21 hits, 10 for extra bases. In the last 2 games they've outscored Durham 23 to 9, with 32 hits.

Cody Ransom---double, 2 singles. ... Bernie Castro did not have a hit but did get an RBI on a sac fly.

NOTES: Jason Lane's 5th homer ties him for the league lead. ... Utility infielder Jeff Bannon pitched the 9th inning for Durham and gave up a solo home to Miranda. ... The 21 hits are the most for SWB since the Yanks became affilitated last year. Manager Dave Miley returned to the team after missing a couple games with the flu. Alvaro Espinoza was acting manager during Mileys time off and went 2-0.
