PITCHING: Dan Giese made his second start of the year and pitched very well. In 5 IP he allowed no runs on 3 hits and a walk, while striking out 4. He threw 71 pitches, 49 for strikes, and got 8 groundouts and 3 flyouts. His ERA is now 1.20.

Heath Phillips came in to pitch in the 6th and was effective. Phillips threw 2.1 perfect innings while striking out 2 and picked up his 2nd win of the season. ... Scott Strickland struck out the only two batters he faced in the 8th. ... Jose Veras came on to pitch a perfect 9th to pick up his 4th save of the season.

OFFENSE: Cody Ransom in the bottom of the 6th.The lone run of the ballgame came on a bases loaded walk to. ... Bernie Castro went 2-for-4. ... Brett Gardner went 1-for-3. ... Greg Porter was 1-for-4 with a double.
