4/8 Minor League Report

================

(We have a new feature here at Sliding Into Home. Big Guy, who contributes his Minor League reports, will not be contributing SWB Yankees Game reports from now on as well. I will add the scores, and key players of the other Yankees affiliates.)

This note first before the game report. SWB shortstop Alberto Gonzalez was taken out of the game before the 7th inning tonight. Possible trip to the big club because of Jeter's injury??.

The SWB team lost to Louisville for the 2nd night in a row when they were shutout by a score of 1-0. The loss drops the Yanks record to 4-2 on the young season.

Recap - Box

PITCHING: Kei Igawa made his 2nd start and pitched another good game. He gave up 1 run in the 1st inning when Jerry Hairston singled and phenom Jay Bruce doubled to drive in the only run of the game. Louisville threatened in the 2nd in a weird inning where Igawa actually had 3 strikeouts. The first batter struck out but reached 1st on a wild pitch on the 3rd strike. There was an infield hit and a strike em out - throw em out doubleplay on a steal attempt to end the inning. Igawa was taken out after 4 innings when he reached his pitch limit. Igawa's line: 4.0 IP, 1 run, 6 hits, 1 walk. 74 pitches, 50 strikes-24 balls. 2 groundouts--4 flyouts.

The bullpen continued to pitch very well, Chris Britton pitched scoreless 5th and 6th innings allowing only 1 hit. ... Jonathan Albadejo was just as good pitching scoreless 7th & 8th innings with 1 hit and 2 K's. ... Edwar Ramirez pitched a scoreless 9th and had 2 strikeouts.

OFFENSE:
The SWB bats continue to be silent (like the big league team), but give credit where it should go. Pitching phenom Homer Bailey was outstanding for Louisville. He shut out SWB for 5.1 innings on 4 hits, 2 of which were of the infield variety. Bailey had 7 K's and 1 walk. SWB had a runner reach 2nd base in 4 innings, including the 9th but couldn't push across a run to tie the game.

NOTES: Brett Gardner missed his 3rd game in a row with an ankle injury. ...Former Yankees Andy Phillips had 2 singles, and Jim Brower pitched scoreless 8th & 9th innings to pick up the save for Louisville. ...Steven White pitches Wed. with Alan Horne pitching on Thursday.
