Chien-Ming Wang got the start for the Yanks and had nothing. Sometimes you get on the mound and just have nothing, and it was one of those nights for Wang. In 4 innings Wang allowed 8 runs on 9 hits and 3 walks. Like I said, it just wasn't his night.
Ross Ohlendorf was OK, not great. He allowed 2 inherited runners to score and allowed a run of his own in 1 inning. He also walked 2 and struck out 3. The rest of the Yankees bullpen did a great job; Latroy Hawkins pitched 2 scoreless innings and got the win, Billy Taber retired David Ortiz, and Brian Bruney threw 1.2 scoreless innings.
RED SOX PITCHING
The Yankees offense pounded out 15 runs on 16 hits, and finally showed what they could really do. They started early, with 3 runs in the first on a 2-run homer from Bobby Abreu, and then a solo shot by Alex Rodriguez. The Yankees added four in the 4th, 5th, and 8th. Derek Jeter had a 2-run single in the 5th to give the Yankees a 6-3 lead. Later with the Yankees trailing 9-8 in the bottom of the 5th, Melky Cabrera was up with the bases loaded and grounded into a force, but the throw to first ended up in the Yankees dugout and two runs scored, and the Yanks never looked back. The Yankees put the game away in the 8th on two 2-run doubles by Jorge Posada and Jason Giambi. Every Yankee got at least one hit, and six Yankees had multi hit games. All in all it was a great night for the Yankees offense.
RED SOX HITTING
PLAYER OF THE GAME: I agree with the YES network on this, Chad Moeller: 3-for-4, RBI, R, BB.

Good to see RBI's being scattered around evenly, our runners in scoring position avg. is still hurting hit-wise, but at least those runners are crossing the plate in some capacity.
Yep, sure is.
The offense was in top form tonight. And all those worries about this team not being able to score runs should be nothing but a distant memory in a few weeks.
BTW, great to see Al Leiter back, he always puts Kay in his place when he trys to stir a story up a lil too much.
Nice game summary...it was good to see the Yanks come alive offensively! Bruney and Hawkins were better than I expected...if only Farnsworth could improve...
Must have been the number change for Latroy. Star of the game I think.
Derek,
Yea, that crowd could have given him a nicer ovation, though.
zone,
Of course it was the number, lol.
He did do a great job, he's been good since that game vs. Tampa.
rookrat,
Thanks. Besides Wang, every Yankee pretty much did their job, it was nice to see. And Wang gets a pass because he's been great so far this year.
