Yanks Get Trounced By Rays 13-4

Well that was ugly.

The Yanks got absolutely nothing from starter Ian Kennedy last night. He gave up 6 runs on 4 hits while walking four in just 2.1 innings of work. He had no command and it was a struggle from the beginning for the young righty. Jonathan Albaladejo, Ross Ohlendorf and Billy Traber all pitched well in relief, keeping the Yankees in the game, but then the mistake known as Latroy Hawkins came into the game. In .2 of an inning he gave up six runs on six hits, and that was pretty much the Yankees night. Maybe Hawkins would do better if he wasn't wearing a Paul O'Neill jersey on the mound - who knows. By the way, if you couldn't hear it on TV a lot of the fans were chanting "Paul O'Neill" while Hawkins was on the mound. Kyle Farnsworth was also terrible, he allowed three hits and a HR in his inning of work.

RAYS PITCHING

I'll say this about the Yankees offense, they did get themselves back into the game after falling behind 6-0, but Latroy Hawkins spoiled all that. Derek Jeter (1-for-4, RBI, R), Bobby Abreu (1-for-3 RBI), and Jason Giambi (1-for-3, RBI) all had RBI and Hideki Matsui had a solo HR. No Yankees had more than one hit on the night.

I know it's still very early in the season, but Robinson Cano and Johnny Damon are a combined 3-for-29 on the season, and the Yankees aren't going to win many games with those two hitting like that.
