The Scranton/Wilkes Barre Yanks defeated Charlotte 5-4 in 11 innings to raise their record to 25-10 on the year.

PITCHING: Jeff Marquez got the start and continued to show progress after a dismal start to the season. Marquez went 6.0 innings allowing 1 earned run, 3 total, on 5 hits. He had 3 strikeouts and 3 walks. Marquez shutout Charlotte until the 6th inning allowing only a single and triple. In the 6th he hurt his own cause with a throwing error. A single, error and rbi single scored the 1st run. A fielders choice and rbi double scored the other 2 runs making the score 3-3. Marquez era is at 6.25. He threw 83 pitches, 60 for strikes. 7 groundouts--7 flyouts.

David Robertson pitched scoreless 7th and 8th innings. Allowing only 1 walk that was erased when caught stealing. ... Billy Traber came on to pitch the 9th giving up a double and sac fly before being relieved by Strickland. ... Scott Strickland, with 1 out and a runner at 3rd, gave up a run on a sac fly to tie the score at 4-4 and forcing extra innings. ... Strickland worked out of trouble in the 10th after giving up a leadoff double and intentional walk. ... Strickland pitched a scoreless 11th after a double, stranding the runner at 3rd base. He picked up the win (2-0)

OFFENSE: SWB broke out to a 3-0 lead in the 3rd inning. They loaded the bases off knuckleballer Charlie Haeger on a walk to Eric Duncan, singles to Greg Porter and Matt Carson. Bernie Castro and J.D. Closser both walked to force in runs with Justin Christian getting a rbi sac fly. ... SWB took a 4-3 lead in the 7th on a Cody Ransom 2-out triple and scored on a passed ball. ... The Yanks won the game in the bottom of the 11th on 2 walks, a double steal by Brett Gardner and Carson, an intentional walk to Castro loaded the bases. Christian followed with a bases loaded rbi walk to win the game 5-4.

NOTES: SWB heads to Indianapolis with Heath Phillips pitching Friday in place of Kei Igawa. Dan Giese gets the start Saturday in place of the injured Alan Horne, with Ian Kennedy pitching Sunday. ... This was an 11 AM school day special game that drew over 8600 paid for the game. ... This was SWB's first extra inning game of the year.
