Both teams are stumbling into this series. The Yanks are in last place in the AL East, and sit 4.5 games behind the Tampa Bay Rays who just took three out of four from the Yanks in Tampa. The Yankees have scored just six runs in the last 42 innings.
The Mets are also struggling. They just dropped three out of four to the last place Nationals and have lost four of six overall. Yesterday's 1-0 loss to Washington was capped on by several terrible base running blunders, include Carlos Beltran getting doubled up off third to end the game. At 20-19 they're in 3rd place in the NL East and 2.5 games behind first place Florida.
Last season the teams split the season series with three wins each. In fact, they've split the season series in each of the past three seasons.
The weather for the weekend doesn't look too promising with rain expected all day and night on Friday, and late in the day on Saturday.
