PITCHING: Dan McCutchen pitched a great game for his 1st win. He retired the first 10 batters he faced and the last 9 batters he faced. In between he gave up 6 singles. He helped himself in the 4th inning after giving up 2 singles by picking off a runner at 1st base. Catcher J.D. Closser made a great tag at the plate on Brett Gardner's throw home to snuff out the only real scoring threat in the 6th. McCutchen's line: 9.0 IP, 6 hits, 4 strikeouts, 0 walks. McCutchen threw 102 pitches, 72 for strikes. His era is now at 3.62. He had 7 groundouts and 14 flyouts.
OFFENSE: Matt Carson paced the offense with 2 homers a 3-run shot and a solo shot. Cody Ransom also added a 2-run homer. ... Brett Gardner---triple and an RBI. ... The final 2 runs scored in the 7th when Cody Ransom homered for the 2nd time in 2 games with his 2-run shot (10).
