PITCHING: Jeff Marquez pitched by far his best game of the year. Marquez went 7 innings allowing only 1 run on a solo homer. Marquez only pitched to 2 batters over the minimum getting 4 doubleplays. He had an amazing 18 groundouts and 3 flyouts. Marquez went 7.0 innings, 4 hits, no strikeouts - 2 walks. He picked up the win (5-6). He threw only 73 pitches, 45 strikes. His ERA is at 5.11
David Robertson came on to pitch a scoreless 8th inning. Robertson gave up a leadoff double but got out of the inning with 2 strikeouts. He started the 9th giving up 2 runs on 2 singles and a 2-rbi double. ... Billy Traber came on to get the final out with a strikeout. It was Traber's first save of the year.
OFFENSE: The Yanks scored 2 runs in the 2nd inning on a Ben Broussard solo homer. Eric Duncan reached on an error, Greg Porter singled and J.D. Closser picked up the rbi on a fielders choice. ... In the 4th, SWB scored 2 more runs. Broussard and Duncan singled. Broussard scored on a wild pitch. Porter followed with the RBI single to score Duncan making the score 4-0. ... The Yanks picked up their final run in the 5th with a Jason Lane walk, wild pitch, and Eric Duncan RBI double.
NOTES: Alan Horne rejoined the team and will start on Sunday. Steven White gets the start Friday with Kei Igawa starting Saturday. ... Nardi Contreras was the acting pitching coach for Rafael Chaves who was not at the game.
