The Yankees improved to 42-36 on the year with a dominating 10-0 win over the Pirates in the middle game of this three game series.

In 6.2 innings pitched Joba Chamberlain held the Pirates to no runs on six hits, while walking one and striking out seven. This was exactly the type of performance the Yankees needed following Tuesday's disappointing loss. He now has a 1.80 ERA as a starter, looks like an ace in the making to me. Chamberlain improved his record to 2-2, and picked up his first win as a starter.

The bullpen did its job tonight, and with a 10 run lead they should have. Ross Ohlendorf struck out three of the four batters he faced in 1.1 perfect innings of work, and Jose Veras pitched a scoreless 9th inning to finish off the game.

PIRATES PITCHING

The scoring began in the first when the Yankees jumped out to an early 2-0 lead. They added a run in the 3rd and 4th, and then blew the game open with four runs in the 6th. The four run 6th was capped off by a three run homer by Bobby Abreu, his 10th of the year and second in as many days. Abreu added one more in the 8th with an RBI double, and the Yanks added another in the 9th on an RBI single by Melky Cabrera. Derek Jeter, Bobby Abreu, and Robinson Cano had three hits each as the Yankees beat up Pirates' pitching for 10 runs and 16 hits. Jeter also extended his hitting streak to 13 straight.

Overall it was a very good night for the Yankees' offense, and much needed when you consider how bad they've looked in the past few games.

Once again, the problem with this team (for years now) was obvious last night. When the Yankees get good pitching, the hitters relax and start pounding the ball. Cashman, are you listening?

Well that's not entirely true. I've heard the complaint many times this season, and in seasons past, that when they get good pitching they don't hit, and when they get good hitting they don't pitch.

I don't know what the case actually is, but yesterday was a flawless win in my opinion.

Also what can Cashman do about this? Do you feel that the hitters on this team struggle in pressure spots, or closer games?
