Matsui Could Return to Lineup Tonight

From Mark Feinsand:

Hideki Matsui should be back in the lineup tonight against the Reds, having missed the past two games after getting fluid drained from his swollen left knee on Wednesday.

Joe Girardi said Matsui was available to pinch-hit in both games, but the manager decided to play it safe.

Matsui underwent arthroscopic surgery on his right knee over the winter, and he indicated that this latest flare-up could have come from overcompensating for the weakness in that leg. The Yankees play three games in Pittsburgh next week without the DH, so Girardi said Matsui could see a day or two of action in left field.

Wow, something different for a change, good news regarding an injury. I wouldn't be surprised if he gets another day off, just to be on the safe side.

Perhaps they should do the opposite... DH him in this series and let him get his rest in pittsburgh, maybe playing him once in the final game in Left, to give his knee ample time. Not sure having him rest now then play 2 games in left field would be proactive to his health. But im no doctor, haha.

Well I definitely agree that they should avoid playing him in the field at all in the next week or so.

I also have no problem if he DH's against Cincy, I just wouldn't be surprised if they rested him. With all the injuries that have hit this team they will probably be very cautious.
