I'm going to try to not overreact to these last two pathetic losses to the 35 and 41 Cincinnati Reds, I really am, but these last two games have been pretty damn pathetic. Dan Giese, however, was one bright spot. He allowed 3 runs, all unearned, on 4 hits in 6.2 IP, while striking out 5 and walking none. He was one strike away from getting out of the 7th without giving up a run, but he left an 0-2 pitch right down the middle and Edwin Encarnacion hit a 2-run single, and that was all she wrote. Regardless, Giese pitched a very good game.
Jose Veras had been pitching very well lately, but he got roughed up a bit today. He relieved Giese after the Encarnacion single, and gave up a 2-run homer to Corey Patterson. He then retired the next batter he faced to end the 7th.
Billy Traber came in to the game in the 8th, and did not pitch well. He allowed two hit and 2 ER in .1 innings pitched. This guy wasn't good before they sent him down, he wasn't good in Scranton, so why would he be good now?
Ross Ohlendorf gave up 2 hits, and allowed two inherited runners to score in his .2 innings of work.
Latroy Hawkins tossed a scoreless 9th. Too bad he can't do that in a game that isn't already decided.
Overall it was a very disappointing day for the Yankees bullpen.

Reds' starter Daryl Thompson, who was making his MLB debut, was on the ropes several times, the Yanks had bases loaded nobody out in the 2nd and 1st and 2nd nobody out in the 3rd, and each time the Yankees could not get a clutch hit. Thompson then settled down, and pitched 5 scoreless innings.
The Yankees also had their chances against the Reds' bullpen; they had 1st and 2nd with 1 out in the 7th and 8th, but each time the Yankees could not get a big hit, and failed to score.
