PITCHING: Ian Kennedy got the start and was not involved in the decision. He pitched well thru the first 4 innings. Kennedy held Columbus hitless until 2 outs in the 4th inning when he gave up a bloop single. ... Kennedy blew the 4-0 lead going into the 5th inning. He loaded the bases and gave up a 2-RBI single to make the score 4-2. Kennedy started the 6th, gave up a double and a 2-run homer to tie the game at 4-4 and was relieved. ... Kennedy's line: 5.0 IP, 4 runs, 6 hits, 6 K's--3 walks. His ERA is at 3.12 Kennedy threw 92 pitches--61 strikes. He had 6 groundout--3 flyouts.
Steven Jackson relieved Kennedy in the 6th inning and got the 3 outs.. He pitched a perfect 7th getting 2 K's. ... Alfredo Aceves came on to pitch a scoreless 8th. Aceves gave up a leadoff single and had 2 strikeouts. ... Heath Phillips came on to pitch perfect 9th and 10th innings. Phillips got the win (3-4). ... Scott Strickland pitched the 11th inning and gave up 2 solo homers to make the score 8-6. They were the first runs he's allowed since June 6th over 16 appearances.
OFFENSE: SWB broke out on top in the 1st inning on singles by Eric Duncan and Juan Miranda for a 1-0 lead. ... In the 5th, J D Closser singled, Alberto Gonzalez walked and Eric Duncan hit a 3-run homer (9) to give SWB a 4-0 lead. ... With the score tied 4-4 in the 11th inning, Jason Lane hit a leadoff double, J D Closser was intentionally walked, Chris Stewart walked to load the bases. Nick Green followed with a grand slam homer to give SWB the win.
