7/17 Minor League Report

================

We are lucky enough to have a SWB report from BigGuy tonight. He won't be doing these all the time by when he does I will post them. Thanks BG for the great contributions.

In the first game the Yankees resumed a suspended game from July 3rd, Lehigh Valley (Phillies) shutout the SWB Yankees 2-0. The game was picked up in the 3rd inning with LHV leading 1-0.

PITCHING: Ian Kennedy got the original start back on July 3rd. He gave up 1 run in the first 2 innings on a solo homer. He was charged with the loss (1-2).

Brian Bruney picked up the action in the 3rd inning and was impressive striking out the side. Bruney also pitched the 4th inning, allowing 1 run on a double, walk, wild pitch, and rbi groundout. That made the score 2-0. Bruney threw 2.0 innings, 1 run, 1 hit, 3 K's--1 walk. He threw 38 pitches--23 strikes--13 balls. Bruney is expected to be recalled to NY shortly.

Alfredo Aceves came on in the 5th inning and finished the game throwing 4 shutout innings. Aceves gave up a hit in the 5th and 6th innings. He picked up 5 strikeouts and did not issue a walk. Aceves threw 48 pitches---35 strikes--13 balls.

OFFENSE: Back on July 3rd, SWB had only 2 hits, singles by J D Closser and Greg Porter. That was it for this game. J A Happ, down from the Phillies to get some work because of the All Star break, threw 7 no-hit innings allowing only Closser to reach base on a walk. He struck out 12 Yankees in the process.

NOTES: Dan McCutchen gets the start in the regularly scheduled game. Ross Ohlendorf starts Friday, with Jeff Karstens going on Saturday. There was about a 2 hour rain delay prior to the restart of this game.

I saw put an end to all this "We must trade for a starter" nonsense and bring up Aceves after two more starts. Its time. And his innings count will be in perfect shape.

Yea I agree completely. There is no reason to make any trades with guys like Aceves and McCutchen, especially Aceves, knocking on the door.
