7/28 Minor League Report

(AAA) Scranton (66-45) lost to Rochester 7-4: Box Score - Recap

The SWB Yanks were defeated at Rochester by a score of 7-4. The loss drops the Yanks season record to 66-45, 1.5 games behind 1st place Pawtucket.

PITCHING: Alan Horne made his first start since June 29th, coming off the DL with a tired arm. He was rusty and had command problems. Horne was on a 50 pitch count and only lasted into the 2nd inning. In the 1st inning he gave up 3 walks and a 2-run triple to give Rochester a 2-0 lead. Horne started the 2nd inning and issued walks to the first 2 batters, and a RBI single before being relieved. Horne's line: 1.0 IP, 5 runs, 5 hits, 5 walks, 0 K's. He threw 43 pitches--16 strikes.

Chris Britton relieved Horne with no outs and gave up 2 rbi singles to give Rochester a 5-0 lead before retiring the side. Britton pitched scoreless 3rd and 4th innings. He had 5 K's in his 3 innings. ... Brian Bruney came in to start the 5th inning. Bruney threw 1 pitch, hitting Randy Ruiz in the head. Tempers flared and both Bruney and Ruiz were ejected. ... Billy Traber came on after Bruney's ejection and a run scored (charged to Bruney) making the score Rochester 6-2. Traber pitched a scoreless 6th. ... Steven Jackson pitched the 7th and gave up an unearned run to give Rochester a 7-2 lead. ... Scott Strickland pitched a scoreless 8th. .

OFFENSE: The Yankee picked up 2 runs in the 4th inning on Cody Ransom's 2-run homer (20). SWB added a solo run in the 8th on a Chris Stewart double and wild pitch. ... Ben Broussard hit a solo homer (7) in the 9th to make the final Rochester 7-4.

NOTES: Brett Gardner was 0-5 with 3 K's. Phil Humber, who the Twins picked up in the Santana trade, got the win going 7.2 innings, 3 runs and striking out 10 Yankees. ... Mark Melancon and Chase Wright were promoted to AAA Scranton today.
