Bannister for Melky? Just Say No!

It was reported inThe Kansas City Star today that the Royals may be interested in a deal that would send pitcher Brian Bannister to the Yankees for Melky or "another run-producing bat."

The article also says the if the Yankees cannot deal for the Mariners' Jarrod Washburn, a deal like this will be more likely. And that "the framework for a deal seems to exist because New York has already shown a willingness to part with Cabrera," but that nothing is imminent.

It also said that the Yankees inquired about Zack Greinke, and offered Melky and Cano, but the Royals were not interested in trading Greinke.

Cano and Melky? Are you kidding me? If there's any truth to that at all, I'm thrilled it did not go down. I also don't want the Yankees anywhere near a Melky for Bannister deal. Bannister is 7-9 with a 5.40 ERA, Rasner can do that, in fact he's done better than that. The Yanks should give Rasner a few more starts, and if he gets knocked around, call up Alfredo Aceves or Ian Kennedy.

The Cano rumor has to be a joke. I remember this past offseason during the Johan discussions, the Twins talked about Cano being the center piece of that deal. The Yanks quickly shot that down. I can't imagine their stance would change so drastically that they would offer him up for Greinke.

I know, it does sound like it's made up. I'm just very glad it didn't happen.

Not to mention, the Yankees don't really have a 2b, SS or 3b prospect to call up. I could even see Jeter at second and/or A-Rod at short but they have no major league ready prospects to play in the infield.

I would just hate to see the funk Cano would go into if he lost his best buddy Melkito. That would be damaging for the morale on the club. Parting with Melky would only be productive in the offseason.

Greg's right, give Ponson n Razz a chance to not stink up the place, at which point you call up Aceves or Kennedy. Its a perfect plan.

For crying out loud, Kennedy can do what Bannister is doing.

And to even have Cano in any trade talk is insane. You can't replace a middle infielder that can hit and play defense like Cano. Yeah, he got off to an awful start, but we're seeing now (and we've seen for a few years now) what he's capable of.
